Long review
Upon arrival at the hotel, I stopped my car on the large driveway for a quick check-in. The hotel had a motel-like setting, so we could park our car directly in front of the room. The hotel compound had 2 areas. The main one was around the lobby and the restaurant. The second one, called ‘The Retreat’, was next door with a separate driveway. I have stayed in both areas previously. Arguably, ‘The Retreat’ was quieter because the area had fewer rooms. The very minor downside was that you would need to walk farther to go to the restaurant for breakfast.
This time, we were allocated a superior room with 2 queen beds at ‘The Retreat’. The room was spacious. In fact, all the rooms in this hotel were spacious. You should check the one-bedroom apartment here; it had 4 beds!
Back to the current room, I noticed a pair of slippers and two water bottles on the table. My first thought was that it’s an underwhelming welcome gift. And why only one pair of slippers despite the room being booked for 2 adults. Soon, I heard a knock on the door. Our neighbour in the next room passed us the welcome gift, comprising a box of muesli bars, a book about Goulburn and a welcome note. Apparently, the hotel staff placed the gift in the wrong room.
Goulburn can be quite cold in winter, so the double-glazing windows were great to maintain the room temperature. The beds were comfortable, and the surrounding environment was quiet at night, excellent for sleeping and resting at night. In the mini bar, I found some complementary cookies. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. The Wi-Fi password was available from the hotel booklet/folder for info. Other amenities were as expected.
The bathroom was also spacious. It was basic, but perfectly clean and functional.
Breakfast was served at the Edge Restaurant and Bar. Previously breakfast was a la carte (during and after COVID), where guests ordered dishes from a menu. Now, they were back to buffet breakfast. They offered the typical Australian breakfast, although the range of choices was quite good. They were delicious too. We were certainly happy with the breakfast. Please see the video below for more info on the breakfast experience.
Below are the usual compulsory photos with the Big Merino. We plan to go back to this hotel again in the near future.
