Long review

My family and I stayed two nights in Mercure Sydney Rouse Hill. The hotel is located within the Fiddler precinct, a major dining and entertainment venue with indoor and outdoor event spaces. The hotel offers 78 modern guest rooms and was opened fairly recently in August 2019.

Entrance to the hotel

We arrived there by car. The car park is spacious, which is understandable as it is needed to cater for the Fiddler’s patrons. There were some designated spaces for hotel guests too. These spaces were locked, so I think hotel guests need to report to the lobby first to unlock them. However, we did not need to use these spaces since we never had any issues in finding parking even in the weekend. And parking was free too.

Our room was the Deluxe Suite with a king bed and a sofa bed. The modern room is quite spacious at about 46 sqm. It has a kind of living room where the sofa and mini bar are placed. This sofa can be converted into a bed. The mini bar looks sleek, but it caused a minor problem during our stay. The mini bar light was supposed to turn off automatically when its door was closed. Unfortunately, the door bended outward a bit due to the height of the door and this was enough to prevent the mechanism to turn off the light from working properly. The light was rather annoying for those sleeping in the sofa bed. In the end, I needed to fix it a bit to make it work.

The adjacent room is the bedroom, although there is no door to completely separate the bedroom and living room. The king bed was nice, although perhaps it was a touch too soft. This is a matter of preference though. The busy main road was a stone throw away (almost literally next to the suite), but we did not hear any traffic noise. The air con was also quiet and did a good job in maintaining the room temperature. Overall, we had good night sleeps throughout our stay.

Interestingly, we could see the neighbour’s front yard from the bedroom’s window. The front yard is rather large though, so the house itself is quite hidden from view.

The bathroom is very nice and clean. The bathtub is large and deep. Very comfortable for a warm, relaxing bath. There is a separate shower too. The double vanities were welcomed I must add.

We ordered a room service for dinner. We could see the menu and ordered dishes using the QR code provided on a table in the living room. This was connected directly with the Fiddler. It was pretty neat. The dishes that we ordered were delicious and generous.

Let’s now see the facilities that the hotel has. The Wi-Fi coverage and speed were both good. The gym is very large and well equipped. It has a massive window overlooking the small garden in front of the hotel. Dare I say that this is one of the best hotel gyms in Australia. There is a small outdoor swimming pool at the side of the hotel. The location of the pool looks a bit awkward because there is an Irish Pub (part of the Fiddler) and a playground next door.

As mentioned numerous times, the hotel is located in the Fiddler precinct. You can find what this establishment offers here. We were given welcome drinks which could be collected from the Irish Pub I referred to earlier. It was ok I guess, but for us personally we are not comfortable in taking our young daughter into a pub. Besides the Fiddler, there are also other restaurants nearby.

I also mentioned earlier that there is a playground near the pool. The playground is part of, again, the Fiddler. It is quite nice actually, but it was very crowded in the evening with some teenagers around. Again we did not feel comfortable bringing our daughter there when it was that crowded. We went there again in the morning, and it was great.

Happy!

Overall, we really liked the hotel. However, we are not exactly sure about the pub next door because we usually do not go to pubs. Again, this is a matter of preference.
