Long review
This BreakFree hotel is located in the centre of Queanbeyan and is within a short walking distance to restaurants and the Riverside Plaza Shopping Centre. Canberra is only a 15-minute drive, making this property an affordable option if you would like to explore Canberra. This I think is the only strength of this hotel.
The hotel was built in 1970 and was renovated in 2011. Nothing stands out from its appearance. The swimming pool, BBQ facilities, and the car park are placed in the centre of the property, surrounded by the hotel rooms in a 2 or 3-storey building, so expect no privacy when using the pool. The noises from the pool and car park also easily travelled to the rooms due to their centralised location and the layout of the hotel. To make it worse, some guests made loud noises in the first night until around 11 PM, disturbing my rest. Fortunately, the noises died down considerably afterwards.
The lobby was clean, although the design reminded me of the 90s. Check-in was easy and quick. The lift was old and jumpy, but served its purpose.
Our room was a standard room with a queen and a single bed. It was clean and functional. The Wi-Fi, however, was slow and unstable. It was almost unusable. The slow Wi-Fi also affected the TV.
The bathroom was again clean and functional.
Breakfast was an ok affair and served at the Peppermill Restaurant and Bar. The pastries were limited to slices of bread, croissants, and muffins. The muffins were disappointing though. Several cereal options and slices of fruit were provided. For the hot food, they served baked beans, bacon, sausages, poached eggs, grilled tomatoes, and mushrooms. The bacon was rather on the burnt side. Beverages included tea, coffee, and two types of juice.
The loud noises and slow internet were a deal breaker for me. It is highly likely that I will not be back here again. Below is a short video to complement this post.
