Long review

Pullman Sydney Hotel is a 5-star hotel located near the Sydney Airport in Mascot. Located within the Mascot business park, Mascot train station is within walking distance, providing convenient access to Sydney CBD and beyond. We arrived there by car, and were welcomed by the concierge on the driveway. He showed me the direction to the carpark and also brought me to the lobby for check in.

The car park is located in a building right next to the hotel and is shared with other building users. The designated car park spaces for the hotel are located on level 3. In order to go to the hotel from the car park, we had to use the lift in the car park to go down to the ground level, walk outside for about 50 metres, and then entered the hotel lobby. There is a canopy along the way, so it should still be alright even if it is raining. The fee to use the car park is $35 per night, which is rather steep.

Right outside the lobby, there is a large sculpture depicting a dogman and a rabbitgirl riding a motorcycle. In fact, these two characters appear in many places across the hotel. They are the creation of Australian artists, Gillie and Marc Schattner.

Walking on the corridor to our room, one will not fail to notice that the carpet resembles a runway. At the end of the corridor, there is a floor-to-ceiling window providing a view of the airport. It is not particularly close, but it is good enough to make me excited.

Our room is a superior room with double beds located on a high floor. Upon entering the room, the glass wardrobe is placed on one side of the corridor, opposite the bathroom. There is a good-sized space to place our big luggage too, which was handy for us because usually the available space that we found in other hotels was too small for our luggage.

The bedroom is modern and has a good size. It is not overly big, but it did not feel cramped even with the two double beds and other usual furniture and amenities. A welcome note and a gift, containing chocolate, along with three bottles of Mount Franklin sparkling water. This room was also equipped with a coffee machine, although unfortunately none of us drinks coffee.

From the window, again I could see the airport and planes landing quite frequently. Despite its close proximity to the airport, we barely heard the plane noises. The air conditioning unit also did a very good job in maintaining a comfortable room temperature. Along with the wonderful beds, we had good night sleeps while staying here.

Let’s check the bathroom next. It is spacious and clean, although it does not have a bathtub. Other than these, nothing much to say about the bathroom. The bathroom amenities were produced by C.O. Bigelow, which was rather special since it was founded in 1838 and is the oldest surviving apothecary–pharmacy in the US.

Now let’s see the facilities around the hotel. The gym is spacious and has modern equipment. An excellent space to have some exercises.

We were granted access to the Executive Lounge as well. It is like an extension of our room and can be a good spot to meet people. We also could enjoy some snacks, soft drinks, and juices here.

The Executive Lounge also came with a canape service every day from 5 – 6:30 pm. We expected some simple snacks, but the canapes were actually quite substantial. They were also very delicious I must add. We also could enjoy some alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. This was an excellent added value for money.

Breakfast was a typical Australian breakfast. Besides the scrambled eggs on the buffet table, we could also order egg dishes directly from the chef. There was also a congee dish and a reasonably good range of cold dishes. The range of juices available were pretty good too.

The services offered by the hotel staff were generally good. However, it was very obvious that some staff, especially during breakfast and canape, were new. They were unsure what to do and were slow in doing things.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in this hotel and will likely to go back here again in the future.

Happy hotel guests
